Auto-chlorinators are an old school method but extremely effective way of making sure your swimming pool stays sparkling and clear. An automatic swimming pool chlorinator cuts down on the amount of time required for swimming pool maintenance and in the time spent handling the chemicals for your pool. In addition, they are especially handy if you intend to be on vacation for a couple of weeks and don’t have a pool service to check on your pool while you are gone.
The Rainbow 300 or 320 are the models Pool People recommends for 1-2 week vacations. The 18 inch cylinders hold 3 inch chlorine tabs. The off-line version can hold 11 large or 98 small chlorine/bromine tablets. They are made for permanent swimming pool installations and can treat 6,500 to 70,000 gallons of swimming pool water. The product connects with ¼ inch tubing and holds enough chlorine to last a week on almost all pools and longer for smaller pools. The feed adjustment works well and doesn’t restrict water flow too much. Happily, these products are also relatively inexpensive and easy to install.
The in-line chlorinators have all the same features as the off-line, but also have much better water flow rates. These systems install directly into the swimming pool return plumbing. Theyt also offers more durable controls. However, these products are not as easy to install and we recommend you call a pool professional.
